MY AMBITION MAKES IT THREE WINS AT BATH
A few days of summer sun and warmer temperatures brought about the fast ground at Bath that My Ambition relishes, and Oisin Murphy showed his champion credentials with a perfectly timed run to come over the top and pass his rivals at the mile distance. Finishing a neck clear and first of twelve runners, My Ambition justified favouritism to mark his third win at the track and the promise of more to come if we do see a summer this year. In the previous race over an extended eleven furlongs, Oisin had Miss Dubai running a little too far back around the bottom of the course, and she stayed on well for third but was never going to catch the winner, going down by five lengths at the line.
In a very busy ten days there were also some very good runs, and just a couple of disappointments : where things didn't work out for Showpeace and Wonder Starelzaam at Chepstow, weakening to finish well back in their races. Barry's Boy finished fourth at Newbury in a good race, showing lots of promise in only his second run, and he should very soon be in the frame. Milvus kept on well at Chepstow to also finish fourth, beaten about seven lengths over the undulating mile. Phoenix Moon showed some of her ability with a strong run down the straight at Kempton, to nail fourth place at long odds under a fine ride by Ray Dawson. She will hopefully have learned a lot and come on a great deal from this run.
Just last night at Windsor Ridgeway Redwing had her third run under George Bass, down to six furlongs she showed great finishing speed after a tardy start, closing to be sixth of twelve at the post. Sent off favourite in a later ten furlong race, Golden Phase took a keen hold and raced too far back for Hollie Doyle, switching right to the rail up the straight. She was never going to find a gap and closed all the way to the finishing post, but still Golden Phase was denied a run and ended two lengths or so back in fourth place : a disappointment as she remains in such good form.
