WIN FOR GOLDEN PHASE the highlight of a busy week
A busy week for the yard, with Milvus heading across to Chelmsford City and four horses entered for Bath's Wednesday card. After a couple of races in which Milvus had gone well for jockey Ray Dawson, this time he didn't travel well on the surface at Chelmsford and so another track might suit him better next time, staying at six furlongs.
After Tuesday's rain and with the Bath going description still including soft, My Ambition did not run, but three others headed west to the Lansdown track. For Hoornblower the objective was to get him to settle in a race after two over exuberant displays. Harry Davies managed to achieve this, but they went too fast for him in a race under six furlongs, the long odds on favourite seeking to be sure of breaking his maiden tag under a front running ride. Hoornblower will hopefully have learned to settle behind others so that he can step back up towards a mile in his next race. Bobby Kennedy ran very well for his jockey George Bass, moving up well from a mile out to be right there at the two pole. After a slowly run race there was a sprint for the line and he was left a little one paced in the closing stages, just unable to hold fourth place in the last fifty yards. This was a much better run from Bobby and off a stiffer gallop he can do well next time out. In the final race of the day Golden Phase looked to get an uninterrupted run after experiencing serious traffic problems in her previous two Newbury runs. Jockey Saffie Osborne settled her well for an even tempo off the pace, and from half a mile out she made up ground readily. This time coming to the last quarter mile Saffie kept her with a clear run over the top of the field, and she swept past the leaders inside the last hundred yards to win by an extending margin - a length ahead by the line. A welcome change of luck for Golden Phase gaining her first win - much to the delight of owners West Ilsley Platinum - after the filly had been showing a lot of promise and a real turn of foot in several of her runs.
