Bobby Kennedy right back on track with a fine effort at Bath
Good Friday saw Bath races packed with full fields of fourteen to seventeen runners in every race, and Bobby Kennedy was one of over seventy entries to contest the third race over just short of a mile and a half. Jockey George Bass felt that they would get racing early enough, but it was a surprise that four rivals set a real breakneck gallop after only half a mile and they went well clear. It was then a question of staying off this pace, which Bobby Kennedy did in a detached fifth place, and then making up about fifteen lengths through the last quarter mile. George judged his ride very well to overhaul the two leaders inside the final furlong, only to be outstayed in the last fifty yards by a horse coming from even further back - and one with three times the races in his record, including two mile hurdles lately. This was a great run from a very fit Bobby Kennedy to finish second beaten just a length, and this delighted connections and showed a return to his successful form from the 2021 season. The ground was riding quite soft this time, and provided the spring going does not become too firm, Bobby will be looking for another race very soon.
