Caribou finishes seventh of nineteen in a Goodwood handicap over a mile
Conditions seemed ideal for Caribou in the last race on Goodwood's card yesterday, but it wasn't to be his day this time. Despite breaking really smartly under jockey Oisin Murphy, Caribou had to work across from his very wide draw and through the first quarter mile he didn't want to race forward to be in touch with the leading pack. In the middle part of the race he was three quarters of the way back in the big field, and although he came with a strong run on the soft ground he clearly likes - moving up very well around the two furlong post to pass several rivals entering the final furlong - he was not able to sustain this into the closing stages and so remained with half a dozen others clear of him by the line. Oisin felt that dropping back a furlong and applying some headgear would really benefit his winning chances next time out.
